Avoid the Diet Temptations Around the Office

Is your work environment derailing your diet? Take a moment to look around your office, do you know every candy bar or chip choice that is in the vending machine; do you have a group of co-workers that love to bring in treats a couple mornings a week? The truth is controlling your eating habits at work is much harder than when you are at home because of all the outside temptations you can not control. Here are a few tips you could use while at work to help you offset the workplace diet temptations:

Stock up on healthy snacks - Keep a stash of healthy snacks at your desk. So when you are feeling hungry you won’t be tempted to head to the vending machine, instead you can grab a healthier option from your own personal supply.

Avoid break room treats - Every workplace has someone who loves to bring in “sugary” treats like donuts, cookies or cake on a regular basis. You may be able to say no when someone offers the treat but by the time you walk bye the break room your will power flies out the window and you find yourself indulging in the treat of the week! Instead suggest that the office manager bring in alternative snacks that promote healthier choices such as fruit trays, veggie trays and hummus, etc.

Enlist a coworker - Finding someone in your workplace that shares your desire to become healthier may help you to make healthier choices while at work. Instead of heading to the break-room during your break-time maybe you could take a quick walk around the building together.

Avoid eating lunch while working – Research reveals that people eat 15% more calories if they eat while distracted. Take your time when you are eating your lunch to enjoy your food and give your body the time to feel full.
